Schooling, Elmono At Cartmel And Bloodstock Sales

We are at the stage in the season that we have lots of schooling going on. With our facilities, we are lucky to be able to school anytime, and indeed we often jump the horses as part of their daily exercise, but in July and August, the pre-trainers have lots of schooling, both in the school and over the fences and hurdles to establish their technique and build their strength. It also gives us a…

Good To Be Back With A Winner At Perth: Fortune's Hiding

Fortune's Hiding was bought last autumn for a very reasonable price at Goffs for Ailsa the daughter of Fraser McClung to ride in point to points. Following a couple of runs, pointing closed down and we have been the beneficiaries to train him to run under rules. A bold jumper he loved today's fast ground and galloped up the run in to beat our other runner, the game Boys On Tour. It was heartbreaking…

Lucky Thirteen?

Perth is back for its first meeting in 2020 and we are showing our support with thirteen runners from Lucinda Russell Racing.

It may seem excessive, and it is a pity to have two runners in some races, but we have fit horses ready to run and it is important for their owners to get them back on the track.

So we start with two novice hurdling mares; Tarset Hinny and Accost. Hinny has…

Destiny Is All Third At Uttoxeter

It has been such a long time since we had jump runners that we are having a small celebration of Destiny Is All's third placing in his novice handicap chase at Uttoxeter yesterday. A big horse he has taken time to mature and showed the first signs of promise when third on his chase debut at Musselburgh back in February. Jumping really well in the main today he was just a little novicey at the last…

Back On The Track

At last, we have runners over jumps with two horses heading down to Uttoxeter today, and plenty of entries for Perth next week.

El, Derek, and Stephen left Kilduff at 4 am this morning with Magnum and Destiny Is All as COVID restrictions have resulted in no overnight stays at the racecourses.

Magnum faces a stiff two mile novice hurdle at 12.15 pm but we feel that he has improved…

Time Passes

Time passes and we are now closing in on our first runners over jumps since the lockdown; we will have some entries at Uttoxeter next week and at Perth on the 21st July. It will be odd to return to the routine of entries and declarations; with the help of our form man Paul McIvor we constantly review those who are ready to run, with Paul producing a list of possible targets for each horse. Of course,…

Progress And Flat Preview For Hamilton

It has been a busy week in the yard as the majority of the winter horses returned to training. An extra thirty added to the fifty already in training has filled the stables and resulted in bigger strings riding out. There is plenty of trotting both round the fields, on the woodchip and sand gallops, and along the lanes. The horses have benefitted from an extended holiday and our policy of continuing…

A Time For..

As the wheels start to crank back into action and racing slowly returns, it is time for a bit of reflection.

Covid 19 has been tragic but the ensuing lockdown has given us time to refresh the yard and staff and to reflect on our way forward.

Jumping and racing are deep in our souls and the excitement, enjoyment, and fulfillment that we get racing and winning with our horses and…

Ballyare Returns To The Track With A Second And American Tom For Free Lease

What a super run from Ballyare at Newcastle, our first runner since lockdown and a battling second place for the young sprinter. Having had a short break he has come back better than ever and he should have plenty more opportunities to lose his maiden tag in the next few weeks.

Our other runners ran to a standard, but while Gripper needs further, Engles Rock should be suited by shorter;…

We are delighted to be recognised as a Lycetts Team Champion Gold Award yard, an accolade to show that we have developed a high performance team with the highest standards of employee management. This is the first year that we have applied for the award and it is great to go in at the top level.

Our team has continued to prepare the horses for racing and this weekend we will have our first…
