Looking Up

Things are looking up for the resumption of racing, both on the flat and over jumps. The flat looks set to start on 1st June, whilst jumps fixtures are being planned from the start of July. We will have a few flat runners ready to go in June, while our twenty or so first phase jumpers have completed their steady work and are heading to Arlary this week to start sprinting ready for July.

Some of our second phase horses will start on Monday, with another batch joining them the following week. It is important for us to have runners as soon as racing resumes to help support our owners, jockeys, and racecourses so we have a slightly larger team planned for the late summer and early autumn.

Pictured is Blue Flight who is in walking rehabilitation, watching the horses on the sand gallop.

Of course, our traditional winter horses will have a few more weeks holiday and once they are back in we will be able to welcome back our furloughed staff.

It has been a crazy two months with half a team but economically it made sense and it has drawn everyone together. A couple of new routines will continue in place for the winter and I think that we will be operating with a more efficient and driven team than ever.

We have missed our owners immensely; normally we have plenty of yard visitors and, along with meeting up at the races, it is one of the best bits of our job. It will be fabulous when the lockdown restrictions are lifted and we can welcome them back again to see the new facilities and gallops.

Meanwhile, Jaimie and Tracy will upload all the horses' vaccination details to the new app devised by Weatherbys, and all of our staff are to take the BHA Coronovirus awareness course on Racing2Learn. This is a mandatory course for those going racing, but we consider it essential for all of our staff, if you are interested in the course click HERE for the link to register.

Have missed visiting the yards and the horses too. Looking forward to meeting up with you all again. Thanks to everyone for all their hard work coping in these difficult times. Great team work as usual.....

An unconnected question - your site is coming up ‘ Not Secure’. Pardon my technical ignorance, but is this an issue with your end or mine? Best of luck with the first runners. It WILL be soon - please!!!
